POSITION SUMMARY Contributes to the organization by supporting physician staff by representing physicians; screening and sorting mail, documents, and telephone calls; scheduling patient appointments, surgeries and arranging referrals; billing patients and third-party payers; controlling accounts receivables; transcribing dictation; preparing medical reports, patient histories, operative notes, manuscripts, and correspondence; maintaining office files and patient records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Represent physician by screening and triage of incoming telephone calls; recording and transmitting messages; scheduling/receiving/announcing scheduled patients and visitors; screening unscheduled patients and visitors; opening and handling mail appropriately, arranging referrals to other health care providers, scheduling MRI and lab work scheduling patient surgeries.
Ensure physician productivity by maintaining calendars, physician schedule, on-call changes; scheduling:
patient appointments physician consultations, professional meetings/travel, conferences.
Produce information by preparing medical reports and summaries, patient histories, vision screening forms, Texas State Eye forms, manuscripts and correspondence.
Generates revenues by completing direct patient and third-party billing; monitoring accounts receivables; initiating collection calls and reminders.
Promotes physician practice growth by managing relations three to four times annually with referring physicians and office staff; marketing services to new referring providers; maintaining a close working relationship with the physician credentialing coordinator to ensure completion of time-sensitive credentialing paperwork.
Provides historical reference by developing and utilizing filing and retrieval systems; maintaining patient records; recording meeting discussions.
Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
Serves and protects the health care community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
Enhances physician office reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

If not BLS certified at time of employment, must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
EXPERIENCE 1 year medical office experience preferred.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
