Responsibilities:
The Unit Secretary provides clerical support for the functions of the clinical unit.
The Unit Secretary receptionist duties include greeting visitors in a friendly manner, courteously answering the telephone and taking accurate messages, and maintaining communication with physicians, ancillary departments and supervisors.
Enters and updates computer information.
Assists in maintaining supplies for the unit.
Ensures proper handling of patient charts from admission to transfer, to include assembly and disassembly, completion of orders, posting reports, maintenance of appropriate forms, and obtaining previous charts.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION High school graduate or equivalent; relevant experience in lieu of High School Diploma/GED education will be considered.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE Previous experience as a Unit Secretary preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES Computer skills; type 35 words per minute.
The ability to interact effectively with people.
WORK SCHEDULE Includes working rotational shifts, holiday, and every other weekend.
May be required to participate in on call basis staffing.
Schedules and work shifts may be changed in respect to patient procedure demands and hospital census.
During low census or low procedure volumes, staff may be required to rotate days off without pay or utilize skills within the hospital.
